THE CONFLICT ISLAND RESORT

Liveaboard & Resort Dive Trip
- Papua New Guinea -

THE DIVE TRIP

Pelagic Dive Travel in collaboration with THE CONFLICT ISLANDS RESORT, Papua New Guinea, would like to take you on an EPIC DIVE ADVENTURE!

Departing November 2021 you will have a three-night SCUBA Dive Liveaboard & five-night Beachfront RESORT Stay. This is no ordinary dive trip, it offers the best adventure with a liveaboard & a resort stay, all combined, with AWESOME diving!

After flying into Alotau airport (just over an hour from Port Moresby), you will be greeted & transferred to the marina where the Undersea Explorer awaits. The vessel is a spacious Liveaboard dive vessel which belongs to the Conflict Islands Resort. After meeting your fellow divers & a safety briefing you will steam out into Milne Bay to reach your first dive spot.

Upon waking its dive time to see Manta Rays! After spending the day observing these amazing marine creatures it's off to the Conflict Islands in the Louisiade’s Archipelago.

These islands are rarely visited & rarely dived. Named this year as a "Hope Spot" by Mission Blue as an area that needs to be protected for generations to come due to its diversity of coral & fish life.

The well-appointed Conflict Islands Resort is located on Panasesa Island, one of the 21 Islands that make up the atoll. Spend the next five nights in a beautiful Beachfront Bungalow with the island as your base. Each morning & afternoon head out on the boat with your local dive guide to experience the wonders of colourful hard & soft corals, fish life & turtles. Upon returning its time for your chef-prepared meals!

The Conflict Islands Conservation Initiative is also located on Panasesa Island not far from your accommodation. We will be lucky enough to be able to visit their turtle sanctuary which will have baby turtles & depending on the time of year, you may be able to see turtles arrive at a nest (November Trip) of perhaps late hatching (March trip - although this is very late in the season which normally finishes at the end of February).

Terry Smith from Pelagic Dive Travel  will accompany you on the trip from arrival to departure at Alotau airport.

An unbelievable trip combining a liveaboard with an island resort topped off with diving which should be on every diver’s bucket list.

THIS WILL BE A DIVE HOLIDAY WHICH YOU WILL NEVER FORGET!

NOTE: COVID cleaning & cancellation policies are in place.

THE CONFLICT ISLANDS

"Our goal is effective protection and conservation of the ecosystems and species within the Conflict Island Atoll through sustainable ecological and economic management. This can be achieved through a concerted and passionate effort from all our affiliates and partners."  Ian Gowrie-Smith, Atoll Custodian

Located in the pristine waters of The Coral Sea, the Conflict Islands comprise of 21 untouched islands & boasts the most extensive biodiversity & coral reefs in the world. The main island, Panasesa Resort, is located 80 miles due East of Papua New Guinea, and accessible only by boat transfers from the Milne Bay capital, Alotau.
With a third of the world’s species of marine fish, the Conflict Islands are home to everything from the tiny ghost pipefish to the huge manta rays & tiger sharks. The 21 uninhabited tropical islands surround a spectacular lagoon and are currently under consideration for a World Heritage Marine Site. Among the group of islands, Irai Island has been found to have the second-best coral in the world with the most number of species noted in a single dive – a diver’s absolute dream!

ACCOMPANYING YOU

The Founder of Pelagic Dive Travel, TERRY SMITH, will accompany you on these amazing dive explorations.

Terry has been a dive instructor for 16 years and travelled to many parts of the world diving. With a passion for the marine environment, he visited the Conflict Islands, in support of the Coral Sea Foundations' Sea Women of Melanesia Program.

" I visited the Conflict Islands this year & I was truly amazed at the healthy coral coverage. There are "lawns" of colourful soft & hard corals stretching into the distance; giant fans in an array of colours. A truly amazing destination where each dive was such a joy.  I also saw & heard from local elders, that there is a need to create awareness, that these amazing areas are under threat. Hopefully bringing divers here we can support local communities & show the world their environments so that these areas be given more protection!" - Terry Smith

With his attention to organisation details, the knowledge that the diving & sites in this area are amazing, plus the fact he will accompany you to ensure everything runs smoothly, you are assured of a truly fantastic trip!
