THE SEA WOMEN of MELANESIA PROGRAM by THE CORAL SEA FOUNDATION & MUNDA DIVE
Agnes Gateway Hotel & Dive Munda - offering its accommodation & diving to you.
Interested divers are invited to support the Coral Sea Foundation & Dive Munda - The Sea Women of Melanesia Program, by staying at Agnes Gateway Hotel, & participating or offering support, first hand.
The women in the program, all from the local Munda area, Western Province, will be trained in how to protect & conserve the marine environments for the next generations of Papua New Guineans.
Staying in a twin-share, Ibibu Cottage, you can participate in the Woman’s day program, and see the women grow & learn. When not participating (the choice is yours on the amount of participation), two dives per day are offered from the boat. Relax after diving in your large cottage or the overwater wharf-style deck over the lagoon out front of the bar which captures the sunsets and faces the nearby lagoon islands.
This is an amazing opportunity to see how the Coral Sea Foundation looks at reef conservation, how Dive Munda is working with the local community, but more importantly, your support for these ladies will be rewarding, as they will be the advocates of marine conservation for the future!
Agnes Gateway Hotel offers a unique Solomon Islands experience for visitors & is located the beautiful Roviana Lagoon. The hotel is the main accommodation provider in Munda & caters to a wide range of guests. The hotel has a restaurant which specialises in local seafood & is a very popular place. The overwater wharf-style deck sits out into the lagoon. Here you can sit, relax and see the local boats coming & going, between the mainland, and in the evening see beautiful sunset, over the water. The accommodation at Agnes Gateway Hotel has many options but for this program we are offering the Ibibu Cottages. The Cottages are all open-plan and in stand-alone buildings at ground level with lagoon views. They provide more comfort and are in the “Solomon Islands” style, which is with darkish wood, with plenty of Melanesian features. Rooms are cleaned daily with comfortable beds in twin or double configuration, air-conditioned, ceiling fan, mini fridge, furnished veranda & an ensuite bathroom.
The DIVING in Munda is very special and magical - possibly some of the best sites in the world.
Spectacular walls drop off to over 600 meters. Grey, Blacktip and Whitetip Reef sharks routinely patrol, as do Hammerheads. Eagle rays, Dogtooth Tuna, Barracuda and other pelagics are also common. For divers who prefer macro subjects will be enthralled by the smaller critters such as Pygmy Seahorses, varieties of Anemonefish, Spiny Lobsters and Fiery Dartfish.
The reefs around Munda are in pristine condition, with gigantic sea fans, lush hard & soft corals. Divers will be mesmerized by the extensive, intact coral gardens in the shallows. In addition to the reefs and abundant marine life, Munda’s seabed is littered with wrecks from WWII, with fighter planes, bombers, a Japanese freighter and a recently discovered dump site with tanks.
