The Solomon Islands

M/V Solomons (PNG) Master

Pelagic Fish Remote/ "Off the beaten track" Wrecks

WWII Wrecks - The Solomon Islands is THE destination for the real diving fan, completely off the beaten track & with this itinerary, you will dive on WWII wrecks of ships, planes & machinery.

This seven-night, eight-day itinerary aboard the MV Solomon PNG Master will begin & finish in Honiara, visiting numerous WWII Wrecks.

Visit such wrecks as the American Catalina aeroplane which went down in 1943, apparently after hitting a small boat on the surface in the bay. She sits on the bottom at about 34m the right way up, as if someone had just (badly) parked her there. See both allied ships & Japanese ships, like the three Japanese ships, located close to Honiara shore. Each wreck is named after the beach she ended upon. Hirokawa Maru (Bonegi I) is a 156m (468ft) cargo vessel turned into a seaplane tender. Kinugawa Maru (Bonegi II) is a cargo ship, and Kyusyu Maru (Bonegi Ill) is an attack transport vessel.

Some of the most pristine dive sites in the world are found here, filled with innumerable unspoiled hard & soft corals because of the remote location and the limited number of divers. So not only will you see wrecks but indulge yourself in diving with various kinds of sharks, & huge shoals of fish, right down to the macro wonders such as pygmy sea horses, nudibranchs and ghost pipefish.

With so many wrecks & marine life, each dive will be a new wondrous experience!
